Scenic Coast / Capturing Smiles Cards & Scrapbooking
Did you know when I joined Stampin’ Up! I was much more of a scrapbooker than a card maker? Over the years scrapbooking has taken very much a back seat as I built my Stampin’ Up! business, but now I am 60 I have decided to go back to my roots!
That doesn’t mean I won’t be making cards though – and to prove it here I am sharing cards and scrapbook layouts featuring the beautiful Scenic Coast DSP and the Capturing Smiles bundle. I have included a few tips if you are making something similar.
Let’s start with the cards – I loved the idea of using the die cut camera from Capturing smiles along with the film strip to show different sunset scenes. I used Secret Sea instead of black for layering and elements to give a slightly softer contrast.

The next one I used the little camera and scene stamps from Capturing Smiles – I thought this made a great retirement card! (Greeting from retired Paradise Palms).

Having hunted through my retired Stampin’ Up! stash for a retirement greeting, I was tempted to include a palm tree and another greeting from Paradise Palms for this one -but you could use the ones from the currently last-chance Boardwalk Fun if you have those.

While making those cards I was thinking about some sunset photos I took on our January trip to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. We got the most stunning sunsets from our room. So – time to make a few 12 X 12 scrapbook spreads! Woo hoo!
I started by using the full 6X6 image as a title page. The letters are fro Alphabet A La Mode and I cut them on adhesive sheet to make application easy.
TIP: To get the letters lined up I taped the sheet and a ruler to my glass mat with washi tape – you can then position the letters along the ruler to get an even title.

Layout number 2 featured my sunset photos. My main laser printer is playing up, so I had the largest photo professionally printed to get the vibrance of the original picture. The other photos are printed with my Selphy printer which gives decent if not perfect shots.
Once again I used Alphabet a’la Mode and Paradise Palms stamps. You might also spot use of the Just a Note dies for the story.
Tip: When you want to use 6 X 6 DSP for a 12 X 12 layout, use a photo or element to hide the join!

My next layout was to tell a story of a cocktail! The cocktail menu at the resort was full of very sugary pool drinks. They did have an Old Fashioned, which is my favourite, but not a Side Car – which is Mike’s. But with a quick search on the internet, we found the Side Car recipe – and hey presto – Mike got his favourite cocktail!
As you can see, I am not confining myself to current Stampin’ Up! supplies for my scrapbooking. THe cocktail elements on the bottom are from Nothing’s Better Than.

My final layout is showing images from a tour we took of the Timanfaya volcano which was near our resort. (Like Hawaii, the Canaries are volcanic). It was an amazing trip and hard to choose from my many photos.
The stamped mountains come from Paradise Palms and the birds are from April’s Paper Pumpkin box. I added some highlights with the Stampin’ Up! gel pen. The list stamp is from the Extraordinary Life stamps which are current!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing some scrapbooking as well as some cards – look out for more in the months ahead.
